It was just a matter of time before I found my way to the Ridgetop train tunnel. With no directions other than Google Maps showing me a train track ending and beginning again on the other side of the city, I gathered some friends to go on an adventure.
We chose to go to the south side of the tunnel, because it was closer to Nashville, and I'm pretty sure we did it all wrong.
We parked on the road next to Shrum Auto Salvage and made our way down through the woods. It wasn't the easiest, or quickest of hikes, and we realized that we took a really hard way when we saw a dad and his two boys playing on the other side of the tracks, but we were all out of breath.
Either way, we figured they were waiting to see a train pass, so we knew to be alert. Sure enough the train passed rather quickly, and we spent some time running around and taking photos before we encountered another train.
I'm sure there's an easier way to go about getting there, but the fun is in the adventure itself. Get out and explore.
